Fonts & Typography

Fonts are especially important for music magazines. Depending on what genre of music that a magazine chooses to dedicate itself to, the magazine’s font has to correspond and relate to that genre as it is crucial.

This font was one of the fonts that I considered to look rockish and stand out. It has a grungy feel to it and the eroded effect makes the words appear more edgy, different.

This font was one of the fonts that I thought looked as though it had been graffitied and graffiti is generally associated with the R&B/hip-hop genre of music. The words looks funky and the 'z' looks almost like a tag.

This font was one of the fonts that I believed fit the country genre of music as many country music magazine use fonts that look formal and ones whose typography is sans serif. It's easy to read and also looks modern.

This font was the font that I considered would best belong to a pop magazine aimed at young audiences. Since the font looks as though it has been handwritten, looks fun and childish and would appeal more to younger audiences who enjoy listening to the pop genre of music.

Experimenting With Colours for My Music Magazine

From my research into colours that are used in music magazines, I have decided that for my music magazine, I will be using the colours black, white and a dark, red with a purplish tint. I have chosen these colours because together, black and white create contrast and make the magazine stand out against other magazines and also both are colours that help to make texts look more modern and formal. I have also chosen the colour dark, purplish red because this will suit well with the rockish look and appeal to my chosen genre of music, but it will also make the magazine stand apart from other rock magazines like Kerrang! who mainly only use the standard colour red in their colour scheme.
